Ed Paschke died the year I moved to Chicago. I had to take it for granted that Paschke was the most famous artist that Chicago had ever produced, and to boot, its best. This must be what it feels like to be born post-9/11. You hear about it a whole lot but you never really know the experience. The opening of the Ed Paschke Art Center this month, almost a decade after his death, is a good moment to reassess Paschke’s artwork. How does it hold up? Is it still important art? https://art.newcity.com/2014/06/27/eye-exam-is-ed-paschke-still-a-relevant-artist/ ![]()

(CBS) — The Ed Paschke Art Center opened Sunday in Jefferson Park – a tribute to the internationally acclaimed Chicago artist who died 10 years ago. “His work is challenging. It’s inspiring. It’s beautiful. It’s real,” said Lionel Rabb. Rabb is one of the main benefactors behind the Ed Paschke Art Center – which has a space for an artist in residence – and of course, has lots of Paschke’s art on display. “I think he’d be blown away… He’d probably be a little shy, like, ‘Just for me? Why’d you go to the trouble?'” said Sharon Paschke, Ed’s daughter. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/06/22/center-dedicated-to-chicago-artist-ed-paschke-opens-in-jefferson-park/ ![]()

A new center devoted to the late artist Ed Paschke will open later this month in Chicago, to coincide with what would have been the artist’s 75th birthday. Paschke was one of a group of artists informally known as the Chicago Imagists, who began exhibiting regularly in the 1960s and ’70s. https://hyperallergic.com/129990/center-devoted-to-artist-ed-paschke-coming-to-chicago/ |
